Our Mission
What Drives Us
Back2Basics Dog Training's mission is to promote the use of positive reinforcement techniques in dog training, cultivating a loving and effective environment for both dogs and their carers. We encourage the use of sensory enrichment to enhance the wellbeing of pets, ensuring they thrive in their everyday lives, and encouraging natural behaviours. As a proud member the Institute of Modern Dog Trainers (IMDT), we are committed to upholding their codes of ethics, that our training methods are both humane and effective. Together we aim to build stronger bonds between dogs and their families through compassionate and enjoyable training experiences.
Positive reinforcement training fosters a strong relationship between dogs and their carers, creating a trusting relationship built on encouragement, rather than fear. By rewarding desired behaviours, dogs are more likely to repeat them, leading to improved obedience and happiness. Additionally, incorporating sensory enrichment stimulates a dog's mind, there-by reducing boredom and anxiety related behaviours. This holistic approach not only enhances a dog's well-being but also but can a promote carers deeper understanding of their canine companions.

Susan Smith - Business Owner & Trainer
I have always had a passion for animals, which inspired a career change from Property Management in Real Estate to the animal care industry. I have a Bachelor Degree in the Science field, and further qualifications including a Certificate III in Animal Care Services and a Certificate IV in Animal Behaviour & Training from AVT. I am dedicated to providing the best care and training for animals. Outside of work, I have beloved Kelpie cross, and a spicy ginger cat, who bring joy and companionship to everyday life.

Nira - The Doggo
Nira, the main doggo. She is an 11 year old Kelpie x Rottweiler. Nira is a nervous dog in many situations, which we have had to navigate through her life. Regardless of her nervousness, she is a sweet dog who loves her human friends, and select dog friends. She is a cat lover, and wants to make friends with all she meets. You can find her sleeping on the couch, rug, or range of beds, usually with her belly ready for pats.
